I value peace and quiet above almost anything else. I hold down a job like anyone else — I simply put it above more money. I'm all in on the slow life — calm, look-alike days where the most happens on the page. Let the stories do the talking, not me. I live cheaply as an expat, in a small town, in a rhythm that barely changes: work, an evening walk, then a few pages over a cup of tea. I spend most of my time with my wife — she's my best friend and my favourite person in the world. Writing fits into whatever the day leaves behind; the best ideas arrive when nothing else is happening.
